This year’s IYC revolves around the life and times of Bro. Timothy Gbadebo Oshokoya. While we will celebrate him, we are more concerned with the biblical principles that guided him and are still relevant today. Bro T possessed an uncommon commitment to “the faith”– his life exemplified the unfeigned faith that Paul had and celebrated in Timothy (2 Timothy 1:5).

The bible is clear about the role of faith in the life of the Christian. We simply can’t please God without it (Hebrews 11:6). However, with so many false teachings in our world today, most young people are not clear on what faith really means or how one can acquire this faith. Through this IYC, young people would be reintroduced to the concept of faith – it’s foundation, its qualities, and its impact on the Christian walk. In our examination of Bro T.'s life, we will delve into the essence of living by faith. It is crucial to grasp that faith is rooted in obedience to God's word, encompassing both His general instructions found in the Bible and His distinct, personal revelations to individual Christians, that is, His vision for their lives. Young people would be encouraged to pursue God’s vision just like Bro T, whose vision: “Africa for Christ” lives on today.

When we understand what living by faith means, we will proceed to explore how to live by faith. God has revealed that authentic faith extends beyond words. The evidence of faith in the heart are the actions of its possessor (James 2:26). We would be charging young people to adopt the faith lifestyle which begins at salvation. This lifestyle renounces sin, believes the word of God, and acts at the impulse of the spirit. A person of faith “acts like it is so, even when it doesn’t look like it is so, so that it may be so, because God said so”..

Finally, the IYC would remind our youth of the responsibility to pass on this faith to worthy men and women. We would re-echo Jesus’ commandment to preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15). In every generation, God uses faithful men. Bro T fulfilled God’s mandate in his generation. We, in our generation, must live up to this unfeigned faith and hand it over, untainted, to the next generation

The 2023 IYC Programme seeks to:
  • Celebrate, and draw learnings from, the life of the first Africa Overseer, Bro T
  • Help young people understand that faith in God begins at Salvation
  • Inspire young people to ask for God’s dedicated purpose and vision for their lives
  • Present the benefits of living a life of faith – (Hebrews 11:33, 34 )
  • Encourage young people to maintain and pass on an unwavering faith – (Jude 3, 2 Timothy 2:2)
